Don't Stop Me

Because I really need more distractions before finals I was directed to a particular web comic (here) that often makes science and math jokes.
However, the science in this joke is minimal.

Elements and that Jazz

I had my chemistry lab today. And actually I wasn't really prepared for the lab-- yanow, actually reading it and all. But, I was very presently surprised how much I liked this particular lab.

The lab was the first of many Qualitative Analysis (which means that instead of using specific measuremetns and numbers (Quantitative Analysis) you draw conclusions and connections based on observasions of color changes, prepititates forming, etc.) and I thought it was fantastic. It's not often that I really enjoy my classes, but I'm escited for when I start taking chemistry classes more suited to my interests.  As I mentioned though, this is the first of many qualitative labs, so I'm very excited for this next couple of weeks.

Also, great about qualitative-- you can't screw up sig figs. I hate sig figs possibly more than calculus.

I know its been forever since I've updated.

But, this is why I love chemistry.

About Time

As you all should know, I'm a chemistry major and its about time I've posted something even remotely related to chemistry.

So, I discovered this site not all that long ago: www.periodicvideos.com

For this site they created videos explaining about each element. Sounds boring right? Not actually, think of it as Mythbusters meets Top Gear... or British science and explosions. In watching these this afternoon, however, I stumbled on a special Halloween episode, which I am sad I didn't find closer to Halloween.

It's still pretty awesome though. Thermite and pumpkins was enough to perk my interest (about 5 minutes into the video for those impatient types).
