Little Pieces of Home

Since, I've started school I've found that I'm kinda homesick. Of course I miss my family and friends but I also find myself missing something about the area itself.

So, here are some of the random things I miss about Lancaster:

Joshua Trees:

Sonic Booms
Zero Humidity
Wide Open Spaces

I think the list of "things I definately don't miss" would be longer, but putting that list together would be kind of depressing.

Dorm Room

Now that school is in full swing I had a busy week, and thus no new posts. So in an effort to appease my couple of readers I have..... a post with lots of pictures!

Dorm rooms are generally tiny, and let me tell you that mine is no acceptation to that rule. I share my new home with two other girls-- twin sisters actually. And while my dad was determined that I am the messiest person on the planet, I believe that I am actually the neatest resident in room 333.

What I really need for my room is some sort of decoration, I have a lot of empty and white wall space. I also don't really have any pictures printed out. In the wall behind my desk you can see the only picture I have here with me and pinned to the cork board the dinning schedule. Also, on a side note anyone who also reads Emma's blog (Pink Rose, linked on the sidebar) might notice that our bed's look awfully similar-- the robots were intentional; however, the bedspread was not. And when we found out it led to many "lols" and "great-minds-think-alike" comments.

(While changing and experimenting with hosting pictures on Flickr I screwed up some of the links. Sorry about all the edits.)

Ruby Red Slippers

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks shopping for and deciding what I’m going to bring to college with me. Before I set about writing this I’ve been working on a composite, alphabetical, and check list of things I’m bringing in another week and a half. This list is a combination of me wanting (or more-- needing) to be prepared and the fact that I like making lists—especially check lists). As I was adding slippers to my list the fact that I’m moving out suddenly hit me. Before it always seemed like a date forever in the future it was an empty feeling. But “slippers” is where things really changed. I think that that is because when ever I make packing lists for trips I always want to add items that make me feel comfortable and at home, but they always get cut from the list either in the preliminary stages or in the “Oh, no! There’s no more room in the suitcase!” stage. My slippers are commonly that item cause I love wearing them in the winter but they can be somewhat large. As I’m typing, however, I begin to think:

Slippers. Hmm, I’ll wear slippers—I can bring them. It’ll be more like home. Wait, this place is going to be my home.

That’s how it sunk in, that in no time at all I’ll be living in a tiny room with two other girls and that will be “home”.

There’s no place like home.
