Epic Music

While I have no musical talent whatsoever, I find that music and sound is something that is important to me in entertainment. Today I ended up on this songs wiki page because of its use in entrainment, as "epic music." And I like epic music. There is something absolutely satisfying about it that makes everything else awesome. Similarly from the latest Star Trek movie the main villain, Nero, was given a leitmotif tune. This epic music bled into our last D&D game and became the theme music for Nick our resident necromancer.

It Must Be Thursday

"I could never get the hang of Thursdays"

Dear Thursday,

I hate you more than it is fathomable to hate another day (although Tuesdays come close). I wish you would die in a fire. I'm sure you understand.

Hugs and Kisses,
Elle

I Forget

Well, I had a good idea for a post for today, but I've completely forgotten it now. This is why I dislike when I get ideas while trying to fall asleep, because 90% of the time I'll forget it. Assuming it is  somethingI want to remember, yanow ever, then I have to get out of bed, turn on the lights and find a piece of paper to write it down. Maybe, I remember what I was going to say, since I'll have plenty of opportunities to post it this month.

Tomorrow, could be interesting for posting, since I have seven hours of class. Let's hope I can keep up BEDA, even with my insane schedule.

EARTHQUAKE!!1

Living in Southern California, you get used to earthquake. By, "used" I mean everybody still freaks out and changes their Facebook statuses as soon as its over. Maybe it's not panicking as much as its just trying to be the center of attention by having something significant to say. The problem with this is then that this earthquake could be felt in almost all of Southern Cali and was in the middle of the day. However, I will concede that when the ground starts shaking it doesn't matter how prepared you may be it weird and terrifying by its very nature; we assume that the earth is stationary when it behaves differently it shakes what we believe to be constant.

I don't know how regularly I'll be doing videos anymore, they take more time and effort than just writing. And realistically I feel like after only a couple of videos I am already just repeating myself. We'll see how that goes.

Obviously, right?

As shown by my continued singleness I am no master of love, or of pick-up lines, or hooking up in general. However, there are somethings I do know:

Like, if a girl says something to the effect of, "I don't think I know your name."

Guys, it's a hint that you should introduce yourself!

This probably calls for some back story. The way my school has the dining hall set up, there is an upstairs buffet-style dinning area, and the downstairs has a mini-market selection of foods you can buy. In order to get up stairs you pay or swipe you card for meal plans downstairs. So, for somebody like me that is in there about 15 times a week you start to get recognized by some of the staff (also students). So, there is this one guy that is particularly social, and for awhile last quarter I was randomly seeing him all around campus. And we've exchanged small talk... I've mentioned playing Freelancer (which actually wasn't as difficult as it could have been because he knew a little about D&D), found out he' a history major,  but I've never actually gotten his name.

So today I'm cashing out to get food from the mini-market area, and Mr. History is working. We chat while he's essentially ringing up my items.

Mr: History: Hey! I haven't seen you around lately. I've been seeing your roommates a lot though. Well, I can't really tell them apart so it may just seem like I'm seeing them more.

(Again my roommates are identical twins, however, Meli works at the upstairs part of the dining hall... but I digress)

Mr. History: I'm  working on it though. Her's names... Mel-- Melody--- uh-- Melanie--

Me: Meli or Melinda, but you're close. Yanow... I don't think I know your name.

Mr. History: Yeah, I stopped wearing my name tag a while ago... (and he rambles off without actually giving me his name)"

Artistic Block

Its so frustrating, I want to express some creativity; to led my artistic side out.

To let her run circles out in an dewy-grassy field barefoot, letting the blades squish between her toes. She practically banging on the door screaming to be free but, it feels like when to open that door try and she just sits there saying, "Yanow, I think I like it here. I don't want to go outside today after all."

So, I'm in a Catch-22 situation where I want need to get some creativity out, but I'm having trouble finding somewhere to start. It's like and writer's/an artistic block and I haven't even started yet.

I need to write or draw or paint or something! And blogging and puppets just aren't cutting it anymore. I need something bigger and more grand than this... I need one of those all-encompassing projects.

Now on a less frustrated note, some really random things that make me happy:

  • Fog, cloudy days, and the "color" gray-  I love gray mostly because my eyes are grayish-blue and I I think cloudy skies make for fantastic pictures
  • Red felt-  for some reason the texture of red felt is better than any other color, its thick but soft
  • Black watercolor-  while watercolors are known for being light and translucent I love the black because of the smooth, perfectly dark line it produces

I should be blogging.

As I said in the previous post I've been really busy with school. But, now that I have sometime before I need to work on Calculus homework, or do laundry, or whatever else it is that takes up all my free time I wanted to write more about how I've be feeling lately.

Firstly, one of my roommates got me sick. Which I expected to happen at some point, but if this starts happening all the time then I'm going to need more tissues for my SniffleBot.

But besides for the awful sinus headache, I'm pretty happy this weekend. Thats most because my roomies are doing stuff for sorority recruitment (and since I don't believe I've mentioned this: sororities at Cal Poly don't have houses (hence why they're rooming in the dorms) and my roomies are sophomores this year(which is why they are already a part of the sorority)) So for most of the light hours of this weekend I will have the room all to myself, which really helps when the room is this small.

Onto my view of college: Maybe I had my hopes up to much for college, but at least in the dorms its high school all over again. And depending on how well you know me you may or may not already know that I pretty much hated high school. I think my biggest problem is that I had been wanted to be out of high school for so long that I pictured college to be my perfect sanctuary. Now that I'm here its not really want I wanted to escape to. Don't get me wrong its not all bad here: I've met tons of great people, I'm studying the things I want to, and I've gained a lot of freedom and independence. I just really hate all the immaturity, which was also my biggest problem with high school. In the dorms there's a lot of noise that you find you just have to deal with-- most of it you tune out or it isn't a big deal. It one thing to talk in the hallway, to make jokes, to laugh, to make plans, to say hello, but why is it that some people find it necessary to run down the halls screaming or chasing each other? Maybe some people enjoy this type of dorm experience, but this is not for me-- I don't belong-- I  just don't fit.

Some of people say that you should have fun in college because this is the best time of your life. In my opinion, I find that notion to be depressing and ridiculous that. I think that you can have fun at any point in your life. Its about the people you surround yourself with. And maybe thats my issue, I don't have anybody that I'm really close to here. A year ago when I had my NASA internship I enjoyed it not because of what I was doing but because my co-workers were amazing. My co-workers made working fun, they made me laugh and enjoy myself and being in their company and these weren't college students. They were making what they do everyday, 40 hours a week more bearable.

Also, I am not a party person by any meaning or standards. I'm not a club person either. I don't like loud music, I don't like feeling left out, I don't like crowds, I HATE people touching or bumping into me. I'm anti-social and have more phobias and anxiety problems that I have fingers to count them on (unless I'm counting in Binary... but I digress). I have issues, and I deal with them by not dealing with large groups. While it may sound miserable I'd rather be at home typing on my blog or even doing homework than somewhere where I'm uncomfortable and will lead to a panic attack. Let's take Robo Prom as an example, this last year when our robotics team hosted it we had more than 500 people show up. Everyone was crammed on and around the dance floor dancing to their nerdy hearts' content. I was helping take money to get in (our team was putting this on after all) toward the end of the dance my friend Lauren dragged me out to the dance floor, where I made it about 2 songs before I started hyperventilating because of the other people pressing past me and bumping into me while dancing. So, I left the dance floor and returned to the door area where I talked to some of the other members of the team that were not dancing and had a much more enjoyable time. This was my "Senior Prom." This is a glimpse of what it was like in there:

Since, this post ended up being longer than I planned I'm going to end it all here and I'm going to try to work out a more reliable posting schedule in the future
